BT Young Scientist Competition-bleeding canker disease of horse chestnut

Congratulations to Anna McEvoy, Our Lady’s College, Drogheda, Louth.

First Prize in BT Young Scientist Competition (Biological & Ecological Category)

Her project was on the bleeding canker disease of horse chestnut. In collaboration with Botany, Trinity Centre for Biodiversity Research, she sequenced its DNA from infected Irish trees for the first time, compared its strain to other countries and found a whole host of potentially beneficial bacteria that could be tested for biocontrol agents.
